PASTOR - SUSIE H. THOMAS

Rev. Susie H. Thomas was appointed pastor at Magnolia United Methodist Church in June 2014. She served most recently as Associate Pastor at First United Methodist in Baton Rouge.

During her five years at First UMC, Rev. Thomas directed the church's outreach ministries, as well as FUMC's support-group and singles ministries. She helped start a community garden, a pet ministry, and a recycling program. Rev. Susie feels that her strengths include preaching, teaching, and pastoral care, and she plans to get to know every member of Magnolia by way of a visit in their home, place of business, at the church office, or other location.

Susie is a native of Monkton, MD. She graduated from Drew Theological School in Madison, NJ in 2009, and was ordained an elder in the UMC in 2012. She and her husband, Britt, have lived in Louisiana for 15 years. They have two daughters: Olivia, 18, and Katherine, 13.

Rev. Thomas is looking forward to getting to know her churches, Magnolia UMC and Deerford UMC, as well as the communities of Central and Zachary. "I really feel that God has called my family and me to serve at Magnolia and Deerford. We can't wait to help both of these congregations to build on their strengths and to grow in love and service to their communities," she says.

AlanaNURSERY WORKER: ALANA BUBECKY, PRESCHOOL COORDINATOR

Alana is a student at SLU, looking towards a career in social work and/or nursing. She holds her certificate in Child Development, and has worked extensively in church preschools and nurseries.

Alana can be found in our nursery, called "the Nest," every Sunday, but she will not be a typical "nursery worker" - she'll offer a Bible-based program of Christian education for our five-and-unders.

Alana lives in Denham Springs and is engaged to be married in the spring of 2016.
